Appalachian Federal Credit Union was founded on a simple but sound belief—people need access to affordable credit. Only then, can families plan their financial future and work toward their dreams. AFCU is a federally chartered credit union and a member-owned cooperative. Since opening our doors in 1980, our mission is to provide affordable financial services to rural central Appalachia.

We are an affiliate of Appalbanc, an Appalachian community development financial institution, whose primary mission is the promotion of individual and community development in rural and central Appalachia, through financial products developed by Appalachian Federal, the Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises (FAHE) and the Human/Economic Appalachain Development Corporation Inc. (HEAD). The real value of Appalbanc lies in the fact that we are a homegrown, locally-controlled and community supported economic development corporation, effectively and successfully pursuing a shared vision of a better life in the Central Appalachian region for all those we serve.
